Goodreads asked Daniel D. Victor:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Daniel D. Victor As an Angeleno, I've always been fascinated by the mysteries of Raymond Chandler. LA is known for its "mean streets." But when I discovered Chandler had grown up in London, I wondered just how he'd gotten interested in solving crimes. "He must have met Sherlock Holmes," my wife said. I proceeded to check the dates and discovered that the years Chandler spent at Dulwich College (1900-1905) corresponded with the appearance of Billy the Page who worked for Holmes at Baker Street. It was elementary to conclude that somehow or another Billy and Ray were one in the same.
