Andrea asked Rebecca Ross:

Hi Rebecca! I absolutely devoured The Queen's Rising, and CANNOT wait for The Queen's Resistance! How long ago did you write this story? Or rather, was it one you had thought about for a long time before it was published?

Rebecca Ross Hi Andrea! Ah, so happy to hear you enjoyed it!

I wrote this story in January/February of 2015. I was actually in the middle of working on another YA Fantasy (which was the most cliche thing ever, haha) when out of the blue I envisioned Brienna and Cartier sitting in a library. And Brienna said to me, "The summer solstice is in eight days, and I have yet to master my passion." And I was like, "WAIT. Whoa. Who are you and what are you talking about?!" I had never had a character appear to me so vividly and say something so bizarre. And I knew to truly figure out what she meant, I would have to sit down and begin writing her story.

So that's what I did. The book spilled out of me, and I had a completed manuscript in 48 days. I was working a full time job at the time, but this was also the winter when Georgia had two bouts of terrible ice and snow, and I ended up getting about 2 weeks off of work. I spent almost every moment of that free time working on this book. It was definitely a wild experience, but I feel like Brienna has been with me all along, even through those those times when I was writing books and stories that never seemed to work out. Brienna was simply waiting for the right moment to appear and entice me to write her story. And I'm so happy I did.
