(view spoiler)[If magic can effect light, why does Eric not make an enchatment to automatically block out dawns and dusks rays from touching him? He could make it multipurpose and add a cleaning function to it as well. He could even have it cast on a gem and then place the gem in his own body for safty. After all, he had the rings fused to him after mucking around in the sea vent and that seemed useful.... (hide spoiler)]

The ring fused into his hand was only somewhat useful, being caused by an unpredictable effect. Duplicating it could be problematic. However, implanting a gem or other object inside himself is worse; his body tends to reject anything not "native" when sunrise or sunset rolls around.
As for blocking the light of the sun, that may well be possible. There are a few reasons for not doing it: Routinely trusting his life to a magical effect seems more adventurous than he might like. Also, who said it was the actual light that caused him to combust? What happens if he develops a solar filter and discovers it creates a perfect darkness--but doesn't block whatever quasi-mystical force actually does the damage? And then there's the reliability question. He spends a lot of time in low-magic zones, so his sun filter might not charge completely between uses.
Regardless--even with a cleaning spell--he's still going to want someplace private to do his sweating. It's not subtle. At best, an observer will think he's extremely ill. He may as well do it somewhere dark.

Hi Garon Whited, Just read your short story "From Apocalypse to Apocalyptica" and I liked it a lot. I was wondering if you could also write a follow up on the story "Dragonhunt". You already wrote about Eric finding that one person and helping him, but I was wondering if you have the time/desire to write a follow up story about the the quest to defeat/kill the dragon?
