asked:
Does anyone know if there is a significant time gap between Diamond Fire and Sapphire Flames? I don't know why, but from the synopsis it feel like there is (especially the part about Alessandro "who was once Catalina's teenage crush" makes it seem like it was a long time ago?). And if there is a time jump, does anyone know how much ahead it's set?

According to this snippet http://www.ilona-andrews.com/little-s... Sapphire flames takes place three years after the trials.

In the previous book in the series, Catalina was 18, and she is now 21. The three-year grace period, in which no other Prime House can attack their newly formed house, ends 24 hours after the start of the story.

There is a time gap between Diamond Fire and the book previous to it - where Alessandro 1st appeared as the said crush. In Diamond Fire Catalina is hardly a teenager anymore - she's 18, whereas in the book before (when she met Alessandro during the trials and later blew him off when he visited her at home) she was 15 - IMO, that's the time lapse referred to here and it's not between Diamond Fire and Sapphire Flames.
