I think of him as the only man who listened---he's literally the only man in the book who listens to a woman instead of trying to impose his will (only because he has no choice.) He listened; he lived.

I think she just decides not to call him because she knows her life will always remain in this never ending pattern of supporting her sister and helping her cover up her murders.
Danielle
I think Korede realized that what she needed most was the person Muhtar was when we was in a coma- she needed someone to talk to that would keep her secret safe, but once he was no longer that person she realized she couldn't continue to have any sort of relationship with him. That's why even though she wanted to reach out and started calling him multiple times, she ultimately realized she couldn't talk to him anymore and burned his number.
Amy
I don't think she killed him, I think she abandoned any concept of a relationship with him because 1) he was no longer an entirely impartial listener and 2) he took action to change his life circumstances. Korede may not have been able to deal with that comparison or judgement (even though he was the one person in the book that didn't appear to judge her). She needed to be comfortable with her decision to NOT address anything and keep on cleaning up after her sister.
Nxvalencia
Korede chose her sister over her own potential happiness. She burned the paper with his number on it so she would not be tempted to reach out again.
Darkloom
I think she doesn't call because she's decided to give up her own life to protect Ayoola, and she will find it impossible to live with the reflection of herself that she will see in Muhtar's eyes.
Kathy
I felt due to the way the story unfolded time wise, it was a societal imposed decision of us or them (male or female) and she couldn't see any other way to go.
