Michael J. Sullivan:
Will there really be 12 books in the Riyria Chronicles? I've read the author's note in one of your books, and you said that there will be. A few years later, is that still true?
Michael J. Sullivan
So, at one time I did think there was 12 - but I had my math wrong. I'm TERRIBLE at math. Yes, Royce and Hadrian were together for 12 years, but what I failed to take into account is that statement was made in a book after they had already been together for 2 years. Doh! So if I continue my trend of doing one book every year it would be 10 not 12. And I have all 10 outlined just to make sure I have a good story for each one.
That said, I don't know if all 10 will be written. I'm very protective of the pair, and I don't want them to overstay their welcome. To that end, I'm keeping the Chronicle books very "standalone" in scope (much like a Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Cristie mystery, in that someone can pick up #7 and not have to worry about missing stuff in 1 - 6. Doing this means I can "stop" whenever it looks like the two are growing tiresome in the eyes of the readers (they are definitely not tiresome in my own eyes). So, I release a book, wait for feedback, and if people seem to want more, then I write the next one. Right now we have 4 Chronicles out, and I'm gathering feedback for #5. Unless something takes a huge nose dive in the next few months, I think it's safe to say that the 5th one will come out (codename: Drumindor). But I've not made an "official" announcement yet. But as the magic eight-ball says...all signs point to yes.

Michael J. Sullivan:
Hi, Michael. I noticed while listening to Death of Dulgath and now while listening to Age of Myth that some of your scenery descriptions remind me of Ireland. Also, some of your place and character names are reminiscent of ancient Ireland (Nog, Meav). I recall that in Revelations you had a king named Ethlred. My question is, are you a British Isles history buff, and have you perhaps taken a trip over there?

Hi Michael! I recently finished Riyria Revelations and Riyria chronicles on recommendation from my mom, who also loves your books! They hooked me from beginning to end, and kept me entertained for many nights during quarantine! I was just wondering if you had any advice on how to come up with fantasy based names for places, characters and/or groups of people? Thank you and I hope you and your family are doing well!
