Kyle Brackman
Kyle Brackman asked Karen Witemeyer:

How did you become an author?

Karen Witemeyer Hi, Kyle. I started as a reader. I would come home from the library with piles of books every week, eager to be absorbed in story. I didn't start writing my own stories (outside of English assignments) until I was out of college. I spent six years learning the craft of fiction writing through books, joining a local writers group, and entering contests. I published a handful of small fiction and non-fiction pieces in magazines and anthologies. Then I started attending national conferences where editors and agents who specialized in my genre attended. Eventually, I met an editor who was interested in my book. I submitted, was rejected, then submitted a new book and eventually earned a contract. It's a long, hard road to publication, but it's worth the effort.
