Jonathan asked R.M. Schultz:

What was the first thing you remember learning about Ancient Egypt that made you so fascinated with the time period?

R.M. Schultz Hi Jonathan, thanks for the question.

For me it was the ancient Egyptian's ideas about the afterlife, the concepts they developed around death, and the entire world they created to fill this void; looking for answers to the human question. Who wouldn't be interested in scales of judgment, a heart devouring monster, birds with the heads of the deceased still flying around by day, the trials, Anubis and Osiris, and all that gold buried with the dead? It was definitely not just the mummies, I steered clear of that concept as I didn't want to create a cliche story. Books 2 and 3 (the final of the series, currently with the first editor) delve more into their underworld, the Duat.
