Ben asked Jeffrey M. Poole:

Questions continued: Why did you chose this genera for your books? How do you introduce new characters into your story? How do you introduce challenges or trouble into your plot? How do you make or write a good character ark?

Jeffrey M. Poole Ok. First question. I chose this genre (epic fantasy) because I’ve always enjoyed watching any movie that had dragons, or any other mythological creatures in it. Dragons are my favorite! 😃 Second question: I introduce new characters as I determine they are needed. If a scene calls for a new setting, or an encounter with new people, then I’ll create the character and introduce them into the story. And, if you’re curious, most of my characters are based off of real-life people. Third question: Challenges are fairyl easy for me to introduce, because I always envision myself in the character’s shoes and often find myself thinking, “wouldn’t it be funny/interesting if THIS happened next?” And finally, your last question: the answer to how to write a good arc for your story is to outline. Write everything down so there won’t be any confusion anywhere on the story. Plus, it’ll help you keep beats (interesting plot points) organized. So, get yourself a notebook and start plotting. What is your protagonist trying to accomplish? Is there an antagonist trying to prevent him/her from accomplishing that goal? Are there certain tidbits you’d like to include in the story? Jot them down so you don’t forget them. And my final bit of advice if you’re considering a career as an author: write. Write some more. Then, keep on writing. If you ever need a hand, or any advice, feel free to reach out to me. Thanks for your questions, Ben!
