Mrs C R Edge I found this to be a beautifully written book about a very sensitive human being. The end to me saw David looking into his own future death and a meeting with his Mother, returning to his childhood when the first of his vivid dreams took place.
Deanne Earlier, David said he wondered if he would ever have a premonition dream about his own death. I think the young woman at the story's conclusion is meant to show him how he will meet/experience death, not needing to be rescued, but rather gracefully met.
Repons This question was also running around my mind when I finished the book. I thought it was Naaliyah finding David's dead body; also thought it was Sandy in afterlife, as a forgiveness to David. But I think the true meaning it's that it was his mother, the only person who supported him and understood him. Whatever it is the ending meaning I think it's a beatiful story, with beautiful characters and descriptions.
Kim After pondering I thought it was his mother. Because he always emphasized how she lived with “animals” and that when she died she was reaching for a window. I am not sure if David dies here or sees a dream of his death when his Mom comes to meet him.

Pamela Perhaps the small person he saw (smaller than Naaliyah) is his grandson. In some ways, Christopher exhibits many of his grandfather's traits - quiet, soothing presence, curious, persistent. Maybe now David can take some comfort in his visions, finding them more reassuring.
