Goodreads asked S.H. Allan:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

S.H. Allan Well, I had a great prompt that was very open ended. Part of the request was isolation and the picture was of a beach. I pictured an isolated person walking on a beach and the idea popped into my head. I also think of cold and dreary as being particularly lonely, and I wanted to write about what I know. I know the northwestern Pacific coast, and I'm in love with Alaska. Alaskan life is practically synonymous with isolation. There are many places you can't drive to, only fly, and a lot of tiny little villages and towns. It was the perfect setting. And then my muse took it from there. I just went along for the ride and typed as fast as my little fingers could go.
