How did you pick your genre, as an author?

Heena Rathore-Pardeshi When I started writing, like for the first time 5 years ago, I started to write a romance story as I was totally smitten by the genre at that time, but after a couple of weeks, I realized that something was missing from the story... and it kept nagging me for a long time until one day, I realized that it was lacking the thrills of a murder and the taste of a psychopath character. And that was the time I realized that it was the love of dark thriller/slasher genre, that has always been dormant somewhere in my sub-consciousness, that was deciding the fate of my writing. And then when I abandoned that story and filed it away for later, and got started on another one, it was so exciting that finished my book in 8 months. So that is how I picked the genre as an author.
