Wild Thorns Ruby had to let Liam go because she knew that was the only way to protect him. The League would have killed him or made into a terrible person, and Ruby couldn't deal with that. She gave him a second chance, and a chance to just walk away. It was terrible that the only way he would leave was for him to forget her, but it makes sense
