Interesting to read that your idea originated with Henry Gustav Molaison's obituary. Why then did you decide to make the protagonist a woman? Was that just how the story naturally began to evolve in your mind?
Hi - and thanks for this question. It might sound odd, but when I read Molaison's obituary it wasn't a man who I imagined looking in the mirror, but a woman. I think that's because novels come from a very deep place, and I'd obviously been thinking about the kind of book I wanted to write for a long time. When I read about Molaison the whole thing just clicked into place, and it was a woman's story.
