So does the authors note mean this wasn’t actually based on a true story? If so, that makes me disappointed (and I feel slightly tricked by the author).

So, I’m not so sure it was inspired by actual events! I’m like you, I felt like it was based on the note in the beginning but after reading the ending note and his statement on his website, I’m not so sure now! (less)
