I …moreBecause Du Bois is writing very poetically and using lots of figurative language to drive his points. He sentences and thoughts are very drawn out. I think it's normal for it to be tricky. Even for someone who reads a lot of old literature, it may be necessary to read a few passages twice or three times to really get the language. People don't write like this anymore. (less)
