Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Joanne Sydney Lessner
Every year for about eight years, I spent Christmas singing carols at Tavern on the Green in Victorian costume. I got to know the place pretty well, and it always struck me as a great setting for a murder--particularly if it took place during an interactive murder mystery dinners. With exits into the park from every dining room and crazy fun-house mirrors lining the corridors, the restaurant provided great cover for a fleeing murderer, and I loved the idea of an actual murder taking place during a play. (You know, lights go out, there's a shot, someone is really dead--although that's not quite how it happens!) Tavern on the Green recently reopened under new management, but I hope my fictional recreation as "The Hostelry" will be fun reading for those who remember the old Tavern and a nice window into New York City history for those who don't.
