What is your favorite character in your novel and how did you come up with him or her?

My favorite character is Elizabeth (of course), and she's essentially my wife: always knows just what to do; never at a loss; underestimated by men at their peril; always dragging me out of the bog, metaphorically speaking. Stewart and Elizabeth are who I hope my wife and I will someday become.
