Kallie Petersen asked Kasie West:

Hi Kasie, I really enjoy your books! I was wondering: how many words are your books on average? Do you have a word count you're required to reach? And how do you achieve that word count/make your stories long enough? I struggle to reach a high enough word count when I write. Thanks!

Kasie West Hi! Thank you for reading my books. My books are anywhere from 65K-75K. And yes, I'm a short writer too. My first drafts are usually around 50-60K so I have to end up fleshing them out. How do I do that? I usually have to delve into motivations and such. Add more thoughts, more description, sometimes even a couple scenes to show motivations more. It's okay if your first drafts are short, you'll get good at learning where there needs more detail. Sometimes it's nice to have a friend read and tell you where they feel like the story can be expanded on. Like if they feel like you rushed through certain sections that they would've liked to have spent more time in. Good luck!
