Diane asked Mary Kingswood:

Hello Mary--I've now read all your books and am eagerly awaiting The Companion! Can you recommend a read-alike author for me to enjoy while you write? I am a lover of Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen novels as well. Many thanks!

Mary Kingswood This is a great question! I can't judge comparisons to my own books - I'm just too close to them. As for Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer, well, nobody quite writes like either of them. But there are a few authors who have something of their characteristics.

For that sparkling dialogue that GH was so famous for, I've enjoyed books by Alissa Baxter, Joyce Harmon and Jan Jones. For something very close to the writing style of Jane Austen, I love the Regency murder mysteries of Anna Dean (if you like Agatha Christie's Miss Marple, it's a Regency version of that). I don't read much Jane Austen fan fiction but one I enjoyed that captured the language perfectly was Clara Benson's The Lucases of Lucas Lodge (her other books are Christie-era murder mysteries, but this is a straightforward Regency romance).

You can read reviews of these on my website, and they're also on Goodreads under my real name (Pauline M Ross).

I hope you enjoy The Companion - only a little over two weeks until release day!
