Goodreads asked V.P. Rigel:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

V.P. Rigel It all started with a name. StarJack. A few years ago when I was in NY trapped below the city in a subway line 7 waiting for the train to go, I saw a subway poster for something. It had a nice picture of a nebula galaxy. Trapped in a train with no wifi or any other signal and nothing better to do than to wait, I stared at the poster. Suddenly, one thought formed, another one followed and I begin daydreaming about that picture. And then out of nowhere the name popped in my mind like a thunderclap. StarJack. And that was it. I knew right then right there that it would stick and I should do something with it. And that's how it all started. That's how I got the idea for my book. From a subway poster. In the beginning, I had no idea about the story or the characters at all. Only that one name that was constantly ringing in my head. So I thought, yeah it a cool name and I should definitely do something with it, so it got me thinking. I knew from the start it would be a sci-fi story set in space, and now all I had to do was to invent the universe. Easy-peasy right? It turned out it wasn't that hard and names and characters flew in naturally how the story was unfolding. And I had a blast writing the first installment.
