Goodreads asked Brian M. Keltner:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Brian M. Keltner Recognizing that writer's block typically results from either perfectionism, fear of failure and/or criticism, or a lack of writerly confidence (though of course each writer must understand their own psychological mindset in this regard), I will do my best to alleviate any pressure to "perform" and simply be okay with putting initial words on paper. It's also helpful for me to remember that good writing, as numerous good writers have stated, is actually re-writing--and more re-writing, and still more-re-writing, as the case may be. This realization allows for the first draft (typically the stage when most writer's block occurs) to just be what it inevitably is for *any* writer: rough. The polishing happens afterward.
