P.S. I am especially interested in the pioneers' relationship with animals - their own and those in the wild. ?

I can't think of any that focus on the subject. A lot of the histories will mention them, but often it's what isn't mentioned that is most revealing. While a few animals were treated & thought of as we would today, most were thought of as a resource. They weren't thought to have 'souls' or to be able to feel as we do, so were often treated in ways we'd consider criminally harsh today. Of course, their lives were also very harsh, so they didn't have much sympathy to spare. I've noticed a tremendous change in just my lifetime, so it's pretty hard for people today, especially city folks, to imagine. You might try asking Janny Wurts. She's active on GR & very knowledgeable about such things.

I have always really appreciated your chronological reading guide lists to L E Modesitt different book series and I was wondering if you would like a suggested chronological reading list to his Sci-Fi books from me? I just wanted to ask as a way of paying it forward to you, but I also know you have read them all already, so wanted to ask first. Have a great weekend. Paul

An Appaloosa? fantastic! I suspected it, but don't know much about horses; know more about dogs! Yeah, we still don't have cell service, but fiber optics internet reached us here not long ago. When my parents bought this place, way back in 82, there was nothing, not even electricity. I remember we had a clumsy gas fridge, very annoying to turn on. But what counted was the adventure of the whole thing.
