Dani asked David Wong:

Assuming that you like to read, do you have a book that changed reading for you? The first book you couldn't put down or that made you love a certain genre?

David Wong I think my answer to this is disappointing to people. I got turned on to horror in middle school by reading Stephen King, and that's only because that's what absolutely everyone was reading at the time, all the time. It was half of the books on any given grocery store shelf. Which makes me think if something else had been popular at the time none of this would have happened. Still, he taught me the one thing I needed to know, which is that if you like the characters, the monster isn't all that important. The reader feels horror because they don't want to see anything bad happen to these people.
