Do the librarians have any theories on why the library and parallel universes exist?

They have lots of theories, but nothing definite in the way of proof. Theories on the alternate worlds range from "they split apart at the point when someone makes a really important choice" to "it's something to do with the dragons" or "it's something to do with the Fae". Very few people agree with the "it all depends on whether or not Agatha Christie existed" school of thought.
Nobody's quite sure how the Library was created, or founded, or came into existence - and if some of the older Librarians do know, they're not telling.

First of all: I loved your books! Can't wait for the fourth one! I was wondering what your inspiration for The Library and the Librarians was? I'm very interested in how you came up with The Language, and the travels between the worlds. I'm studying English literature, and I'd love to write a term paper about The Invisible Library some time soon!
