Grant asked Lauren K. Denton:

I know some writers don't like to be pigeon-holed into one category, but if you were de-alphabetizing the library stacks, where would you want your books to be shelved? For example, women writers, southern novelists, inspirational fiction...other?

Lauren K. Denton Oh, you've touched on such a hot topic with authors...or maybe it's just me. And maybe it's just me because my books get shelved in so many places. When people ask me what type of books I write, my answer is usually Contemporary Southern Fiction or Southern Women's Fiction.

To be perfectly honest, I'm happiest when I see my book shelved along with the other General Fiction titles in the library. Same thing with bookstores--general fiction please. If a library or bookstore happens to have a southern fiction section, I'd be totally happy to be shelved there.

Amazon is a different beast because they have so many genre tags on books. I've seen my books categorized in everything from "Historical Christian Romance" (huh...???) to "Small Town/Rural Fiction" and "Clean and Wholesome." Publishers sometimes use more specific tags and categories too--but sometimes I wonder if all the various categories mean as much to regular, everyday readers.

I'd be curious where YOU think my books should be shelved ;)
