Lonna Pierce asked Amy Makechnie:

Your characters are so original! They seem to have inhabited my heart, as you can see by my Goodreads 5-star review. Where did the inspiration for Gaysie come from? -Thanks, Lonna Pierce

Amy Makechnie Hi Lonna! Thank you for not only reading Guinevere, but for leaving such a wonderful review - I appreciate it. These characters have inhabited my heart as well, and it makes me so happy when readers connect with them.

Gaysie was very much inspired by my mother-in-law who was a larger-than-life personality. She always championed the underdog, loved children, and was often seen as an odd, eccentric character - with a heart of gold. One morning she was burying her pet dog, which was wrapped in a black plastic bag. There was quite a dramatic funeral of sorts and I kept thinking, "this is my first scene" :). I definitely went off script as Gaysie became her own person, but the inspiration was there from the start. Sadly, my mother-in-law passed away suddenly before she ever read Guinevere. I so hoped she would be the one to read the audiobook. But I like to think she would have gotten such a kick out of reading about Gaysie Cutter and Guinevere St. Clair.

Thank you for the question!
