What inspired you to create the concept of the willstone? What is the importance of "will" in the concept?

I needed some kind of transistor to manipulate the vibration of the strings that make up the fundamental essence of matter and energy (as taken from String Theory). Crystals vibrate at set rates--in fact we build watches out of quartz bc it is so predictable--but I needed a new crystal that would be more malleable, something that worked at the command of the witch. I saw witches as being women with such iron will they could change the very nature of matter and energy. From the blending of those two concepts came willstones.
