Goodreads asked Dan Padavona:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Dan Padavona Begin writing. Immediately. Do not wait for inspiration to hit you like a bolt of lightning from the blue.

Nor should you wait until X Course or Y Workshop has been completed. If you truly want to write, you must begin now.

I advocate reading and writing for a combined 3 hours per day as a minimum. At least 1 hour of this time should be spent writing. On good days, I like to write for 2 hours and read for 2 or more hours. Stay committed. I wrote Storberry from the passenger seat of a Prius on our family vacation to South Carolina, I wrote from the hotel room, and between graveyard shifts. If you truly want it, there will be nothing that can stand in your way.

It is only through this daily ritual that you will begin to write simile freely, construct visual descriptions, and find your voice. Never be discouraged by rough starts. Keep writing and reading, writing and reading, and you will soon progress beyond your expectations.
