All of Karen Rose's books are stand-alone. This apparently is her new series. Even if there is an appearance of any previous characters, there will always be an explanation. She has a remarkable talent to incorporate the other characters without disrupting the story. so you should be good :)

You do not Need to but i would very much recomend reading all her books in her advised reading order as they all take place in the same world and follow a timeline and conected characters it's really a shame to miss out on all of the small deatails of there backstory's.
Barbara Hall
She is mentioned in some book before this one. This series picks up from Death Is Not Enough, but if you start there you would wish you started from the beginning. I am caught up on all of them amd enjoyed them all.
