I believe there are a few reasons for this. The first is a reference to the monster in Stephen King's novel IT. Andy Evans has become that kind of unspeakable monster to Melinda. She also refers to the actual rape as IT as well. Both the monster and his actions have been reduced to IT in Melinda's train of thought.
