Goodreads asked Josh Oelrich:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Josh Oelrich Read a ton of books from your target genre and really study how other authors describe characters, blend dialogue, transition scenes, bring the characters to life and draw the reader in. Write about things that you're passionate about. Create real, flawed but noble characters you care about and know deeply. Start small. Create a scene first and polish it. Create an outline for your work. Know the end of your story before you begin. Share what you've written and get honest feedback, but not too soon. Make sure it's fully baked and ready for consumption. Keep writing, but only if you love it and can't live without doing it.
