Bongo
Bongo asked Tim Butcher:

I did enjoy both your Africa books. I've always wanted to go to the Congo. Tell a lie I spent five minutes standing in a field in eastern Congo just over the border and a short bicycle ride away from Arua. I alwys travel light and I was wondering if you were to travel of the beaten track in Congo would you lug around a laptop again or just put a Black and Red notebook and biro in your back pocket?

Tim Butcher Thank you for the question. I would start with both but expect to finish with only the paper notebook. Memory sticks are a must for modern travellers, all one’s data backed-up on a stick worn on a necklace and then, in turn, backed up again at internet cafes etc. In DRC I remember transcribing all my notes, details and quotes whenever I got to a UN military base which invariably had online facilities, in Kalemie, Kindu, Kisangani and Mbandaka.
