One of the first scenes that I wrote wound up feeling like it should happen near the end of the story, so I thought about the steps I should take to get there--the groundwork that I needed to lay out to give it the proper context.
It wasn't entirely linear, though. I had a few scenes that I knew shared important info about the characters, so I put those in a rough order then thought about how to connect them while moving toward the ending.
