Goodreads asked Polly Alice McCann:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Polly Alice McCann I've been writing a memoir about my family for 20 years-- in poetry. The idea came when I took a poetry class and found out that poetry was what my made my inner word to make sense. I also read a children's biography of Pablo Neruda. I didn't realize at the time he was a famous poet. I didn't even know the book was a biography. I just read it and adored it. I kept saying all throughout the book. Why is this kid so much like me. We could be twins. As I finished reading the book and the main character became a poet, I reread the back of the book and realized it was a historical biography-- not fiction! I began reading the poetry of Pablo Neruda and I decided I wanted to be like him-- to think of my life as a time to write as much poetry as possible. Whatever poems became well known or well liked or survived in books-- was not up to me. Quantity was my answer and I found it suits me very well.
