A good bit of violence (the whole premise is about a murder suspect running away), most of it in flashback form. No language that I remember. As far as inappropriate things, there are some things I wouldn't want a younger child reading, but, for teens or adults, it's a good read. The morals are very clear, and there isn't anything overly explicit. Would recommend for maybe 13+.
