Reading this series has nothing to do with the events and characters of the other trilogies. :-)

I believe this can be read as a stand alone series, provided you read TMI at least. There, you get familiar with Alec and Magnus. There's also The Bane Chronicles, but that has spoilers in it as it covers different time periods in the Shadowhunter world.(less)
