I hope you're not disappointed to hear that I hadn't thought of this! Let me explain: the book underwent a lot of revision. A LOT. I worked really hard to balance the human element with the horror element, and in the end decided to tread lightly on the horror.
But... It's important for writers to think about "upping the ante", not being content and trying to make the experience bigger and better for readers--and this would've been a major upping of the ante! So, lesson learned and I will keep this in mind as I work on the next book. Thanks for writing and you might think about a career as an editor.

Started on your 'Fervor' and wanted to say, it's as engrossing as 'Hunger'! Will likely finish it late in bed and keep a light on 'cause it's scary!!!! ;) Where I live, trees get covered in a kind of 'spiderweb' each summer, causing them to look like skeletons in mesh. It's harmless, tree recover, once whatever insect is involved leaves. Is this similar to whatever inspired Japanese demons?

I've read accounts of that many times and people may have an opinion, but it doesn't mean squat until you're put into that position. This is not meant to be disrespectful but everyone has a breaking point. That point can change from year to year such as in the book, "The Red Badge of Courage." This is a thing that will drive a man crazy or he will be scorned to death. The question I must ask is what do you fear?
