Paige Stirling Hi, I LOVED both these books as well. Others I would recommend include The Nightingale (also set in WW2), The Clay Girl, Homegoing, A Fine Balance, The Book Thief, and A Prayer for. Owen Meany.

Jackie L I too would recommend A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving (John Boyne dedicated Heart's Invisible Furies to John Irving).
Also, Waiting, by Ha Jin, and A Gentleman in Moscow, Amor Towles both are excellent.

Janice I liked both the books you mention and I'd also recommend Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt.
My Dear I Wanted to Tell You by Louisa Young set in WW1 is another good one.

Vanessa Bradford I can’t put this book down. I know it has a few route route master moments - but so what? It’s still a good read with some very funny lines, it’s definitely “my standard”
Also love All the light you cannot see. And what about Anil’s Ghost by Michael Ondaatje ? Sheds some interesting light on the Sri Lankan civil war.
