How attached did you get to your characters in the book Gone? Were their personalities based on anyone you know in real life? If so, I feel bad that you know someone like Drake.

Michael Grant I almost never use real people. I find it limiting. I treat my characters like employees, they work for me. If they do a good job (in other words, if they stay interesting and useful) they live. If not, they die. If you've put a friend into a book as a character you tend to lose the ability to do with them as you wish.
