It's a picture book, but on the long side with lots of text. I'd recommend it for ages 7-10. Even though it's a picture book, I think older kids would gladly sit still for a read-aloud because the story is fairly technical and the illustrations are rich and detailed.

According to the publisher, it's listed as 4-8. Personally, I tried reading it to my 4-year-old grandson and we got about halfway through ;) The sweet spot it probably 5-6 and up since it's a little longer than the average picture book. But, like all books, it probably depends on your kiddos!
