Goodreads asked A.M. Scott:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

A.M. Scott I got the idea from a Tweet by NASA. They are developing a deep-space atomic clock, to give deep-space probes a GPS-like capability. Since I started my USAF career in GPS, I know all atomic clocks need maintenance and corrections as they age. There are real-world theories that space can be folded, but if we are 'folding' space, not only would we have to know where we are going, but when. Time is just another dimension, and it would need to be defined. So, if we define 'time' with a timing source, like a clock, who's going to do the maintenance on those clocks? My mind went a little wild after that, and you now have the result!
