A reviewer in the New York Times noticed this in the mid-1960s, and it proved very helpful to me. Indeed, he went further and noted that other gay playwrights had done the same thing. For example, Blanche DuBois makes more sense once you consider the possibility that she is a gay man in drag.(less)
