I am fascinated with those honey cakes! Baked in the ashes of a fire. Do you have any source for this dish? I have an antique cookbook collection but no Eastern European ones. I would love to know more about it if it's real. LOVE this book btw! It's a relaxing, fun read

Katherine Arden Thank you! The modern Russian honeycake is a layered delight called a medovik (just google and you'll find many recipes) . A medieval take is just eggs, honey and flour. Beat 3 eggs until very fluffy, mix in most of a cup of honey, and then fold in 3/4 c flour. Pour mixture into greased cake pan. You can bake in hot embers if you're feeling adventurous (make sure the edges don't burn) or just for 40 mins at 350 in a normal oven. Drizzle remaining honey on top and serve hot. Glad you enjoyed the book.
