Yes, they are Nephilim. I don't remember how exactly their species works since I haven't read this series in a few years but they are humans who are born and have angel blood inside of them. As far as I remember, they aren't born directly from angels and humans if that's what confused you. I believe more information would be given in later books but if you're still confused then it may be a safe thing to look up the book series wiki and 'Shadowhunters.' Spoilers will be in those answers, however. This is me just not remembering anything and can't spoil anything XD
