Dear Bela,
The physical location of the camp where Lida was taken was close to a city known as Breslau in the Reich in WWII, but is now Wroclaw Poland. For the day to day events, I used memoirs, diaries and interviews with actual slave laborers, but from a number of different camps. In The War Below, the camp's location is more clear because when Luka escapes, he needs to figure out where he is.

I recently read your book Making Bombs for Hitler and could not put it down. I found it on my spring Scholastic Book Fair and was captivated from the first chapter. I think it was well crafted with amazing characters. I was happy to see a strong female protagonist who did not give up. What an inspiring book! I would like to know what age level you had in mind when writing this one?
