Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Kevin Begos My wine madeleine moment was in an Amman, Jordan, hotel room of all places. I had spent the day reporting and was exhausted. In the minibar was this little bottle from Cremisan Winery and Monastery, which is located between Bethlehem and Jerusalem. It was 2008. Who knew monks were still making wine?
I got home, did some research, and discovered that at the time no one had heard of it. I couldn’t find it anywhere. Plus, Cremisan was using grapes with strange names like Jandali, Hamdani, and Baladi. At the time neither the winery nor the grapes were mentioned in the Oxford Companion to Wine, which was, and is, my go-to source, a kind of industry bible.
