Jack Jordan asked:

Why is the King of Spain (the father) depicted as a homosexual? Really?? Is this a necessity for books to the published these days? It adds nothing to the story line. Must they be deemed PC before they are approved to go forward?

Aušrinė I understand what you are saying about homosexuality as a necessity for nowadays books. But here it actually made sense. As previous commentator stated, homosexuality explains, why the king never remarried. Also, it explains why king spend so much time with Valdespino and trusted him so much.
Frankie Maybe you think of that as the prince thought the king never remarried because he had loved someone else. He in fact did, he loved the bishop but in a platonic way. The word love here I believe has a greater meaning than just sexual attraction.
Alyssa It adds nothing to the storyline for him to be heterosexual either. Homosexuals exist and just because they are included in a story doesn't automatically mean the book included them "to be PC". They can just be included because they are naturally occurring throughout the world. Why are you so threatened by the inclusion of a homosexual character?
