Brook Barnett
Brook Barnett asked Gail Carson Levine:

I've always loved your retelling of classic fairytales, and I'm excited to read "Ogre Enchanted". I've never heard of "The False Prince and the True" before, but now that I looked it up, I like it a lot. Do you have a favorite fairy tale that you haven't been able to use in your books yet? Do you ever read other author's retellings and feel "I could do that better" or "Now I can't use that one"?

Gail Carson Levine I love both "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" and "The Twelve Dancing Princesses," and I haven't figured out how to write either one. I'm also very interested in "Aladdin" and "Rumpelstiltskin." I love Shannon Hale's THE GOOSE GIRL, so I may leave that one alone, but usually my idea goes in a direction that doesn't compete with another writer's conception.
