Barbara Black
Barbara Black asked M.C. Beaton:

As a reader, re-reader and re-re-reader of both mystery series -- thank you!! My question is about a word usage that I find interesting: You use the word 'up' when I would use the word 'wrong': As in 'what's up with that', when the usage I'm familiar with would be 'what's wrong with that'. So my question is where this usage comes from. Regional? Scottish? British? Barbara Black

M.C. Beaton It’s British-speak. Also Scottish. Can be threatening. “What’s up with your face?”
